Arifa BixbyChair, Women’s Club

Arifa was born in Baku, Azerbaijan and graduated from the Azerbaijan University of Foreign Languages.  She worked for ExxonMobil and is married to Mark Bixby and has two daughters: Leila, 9 and Sema, 6.  She has lived in Houston since 2001.

Presently, Arifa is a homemaker and devotes all her time to raising her kids and volunteering her time for HBSCA as the Chair of the Women’s Committee. She has a passion for baking and loves her motherland, Azerbaijan.

Jamila R. JabbarliCo-Chair, Youth Committee

Jamila is a procurement and supply chain specialist with an MBA degree from University of Houston, Bauer College of Business. Originally from Baku, Azerbaijan, Jamila moved to Houston, TX in 2007 with her husband Farid Karimov to pursue a master’s degree.  Jamila has worked for various organizations like UNICEF and World Bank before moving into oil and gas project management. For three years, Jamila was managing the Fund for Mentally Challenged Orphans of Mardakan City, which she founded in 2004 until the end of the project in 2007. She currently serves as an MRO Buyer for Tenaris and pursuing CPIM certification.

Peri IsmayilovaCo-Chair, Youth Committee

Peri was born and raised in Azerbaijan, and later moved to Houston in 2008.  She received her first degree in Azerbaijan and currently works and studies at the University of Houston, completing a Masters Degree in Human Resource Development, specializing in planning, developing, conducting, and evaluating training and education programs for all functions and business units in a company.  She earlier worked with the American Chamber of Commerce in Baku.  A Sagittarius, her interests include reading, camping, floral arrangements, and multimedia design.

Mehriban EfendiChair, Education Committee

Mehriban was born in 1985 in Baku, Azerbaijan and moved to the United States in 2003 with her family. She attended Georgetown University and George Mason University and majored in Economics.

During college, she worked at various law firms and international organizations. After graduating in May 2009, Mehriban moved to Houston, TX.  She is currently planning to start graduate school in the Fall 2011.

Babak HuseynovChair, Diaspora & Corporate Relations Committee

Babak was born in Baku, Azerbaijan and received his bachelor degree in Finance and Accounting from Azerbaijan State Economic University in 2001.  He moved to the US in 2003 to pursue a masters degree and received his MBA from McNeese State University in 2005.  He currently works at Hess Corporation and holds a CPA license in the State of TX.  He is married and the father of one.

Yusif AlaskarovChair, Sports Committee

Yusif graduated from the Azerbaijan Oil Academy in 1999 with a MSc in chemical technology.  He worked for BP in Azerbaijan until moving to Houston with his family in summer 2008.  Currently, he is a process engineer at Cameron.

Yusif is an avid fan of chess and soccer.  He enjoys hiking and reading history books and is the father of two kids.

Dr. Riad EfendiChair, Communications Committee

Dr. Efendi was born in 1970 in Baku, Azerbaijan and graduated from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology with a PhD in Environmental Science.  He has been holding safety/security/emergency response managing positions throughout the world as well as two university faculty appointments. Currently he holds a position of North America Regional HSE Manager for a major oil/gas construction company. He has served on the HBSCA Board of Directors since 2005.  He is interested in history, literature, bridge, crossfit and is an active member of the intellectual games club of Houston.

Hanum AzizChair, Membership Committee

Hanum is married to Yusif Alaskarov and has two sons, Rasul and Ayhan.  She moved to Houston in the summer of 2008 and work for BP, HR Expatriate Services.  Prior to BP, Hanum worked for the US Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce in Washington DC and  McDermott in Baku.  She is actively involved in her community and was one of the founders of Rotaract Club of Baku, where she later served as the Community Service Committee Chairperson, President of the Club and Secretary of the Club.  She hails from Lenkoran and is a Pisces.  Her favorite food is levengi toyug and considers herseef to be “The Sanquine” – extroverted, little sarcastic, a people person, and talkative.
